At Ysgol Tan y Gopa, assessment is an ongoing part of teaching and learning. Teachers use a range of assessment strategies, including observation, discussion, questioning and pupils’ work, to identify strengths, celebrate achievements and plan the next steps in learning.

Children are encouraged to reflect on their own learning and understand how they can continue to improve. This helps to develop confidence, independence and a positive attitude towards learning.

Teachers keep records of pupils’ progress throughout the year to ensure learning is well matched to individual needs and that appropriate support or challenge is provided where required.

We believe that working in partnership with parents and carers is essential. Progress is shared through:

  • Parents’ Evenings
  • Annual written reports
  • Seesaw learning journals
  • Opportunities to speak with class teachers throughout the year

If parents or carers have any questions or concerns about their child’s progress, they are encouraged to contact the school to arrange a meeting with their child’s teacher.
